The NIBU is a member of the Irish Bridge Union and is affiliated to Bridge Great Britian.
It is a Union of Clubs grouped into six areas — Antrim/Derry, Armagh/South Down, Belfast, East Down, North Down, Fermanagh/Tyrone. There are 44 Clubs throughout Northern Ireland now actively affiliated to the NIBU with a total of around 1900 registered members. This latter figure has been increasing steadily over the last number of years.
The Objects of the
Union are
to promote and conserve the best interests of Bridge and Bridge Clubs in
Northern Ireland
to select players to represent Northern Ireland in Bridge matches and
competitions
to conduct, licence and sanction tournaments and to formulate, interpret and
enforce rules for the conduct of such tournaments and competitions
The Irish Bridge Union
is a confederation of the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland and the
Northern Ireland Bridge Union. All members of the constituent bodies are
automatically members of the IBU.
The IBU organises participation in European and World Championships on behalf
of all Ireland.
Bridge Great Britain
is an organisation representing the five Unions which runs the Camrose series,
the Lady Milne, the Junior Camrose and the Peggy Bayer Trophy. In addition, it
runs a number of simultaneous pairs events and the Gold Cup, and the profits
from these are distributed between the Unions to assist in the funding of
international teams.
